Need to know: Tragic death of wellness coach linked to Amazonian frog drug

  • A British wellness coach and cancer survivor tragically died after taking part in an alleged ‘detox’ ritual involving a deadly Amazonian frog drug.
  • Kristian Trend, 40, collapsed at his Leicester flat after consuming Kambo, a substance derived from toxic tree frog skin secretions. The drug remains legal in the UK despite being banned in countries like Australia and Chile.
  • His devastated mother Angie revealed her son was ‘very spiritual’ and had told her he was ‘going to cleanse himself’. She confessed: ‘We haven’t had the test results back yet. I don’t know anything and I don’t even think I want to know what happened.’
  • The cancer survivor had previously battled Burkitt lymphoma and spent four months in hospital before making a recovery. His tragic death occurred during his birthday week last month.
  • Police have arrested a 41-year-old man on suspicion of administering poison, though he has been released on bail. If confirmed, Kristian could become the first British fatality linked to Kambo.
  • The substance is not licensed as medicine in the UK and remains unregulated by health authorities. Angie has called for the drug to be banned, saying: ‘I hope they ban it, but I’m not strong enough to fight for it.’
  • The Home Office confirmed it is working with health officials to scrutinise the substance following the tragedy.
