West Ham have been relegated from the Premier League on the final day of the season despite beating Leeds United 2-0 at the London Stadium.

The Hammers went into the final day knowing they had to beat Leeds and hope for a miracle in north London, where Tottenham welcomed Everton. Only a Spurs loss and an Everton win would see West Ham in the Premier League next season.

Spurs landed the first blow, as João Palhinha bundled the ball home from a corner, needing help from goal line technology to confirm the ball had crossed the line. Tottenham had been the better of the two teams and took a well-deserved lead.

However, despite Spurs’ dominance, news of Taty Castellanos’ second-half header still injected some nerves into the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

And the Hammers would soon double their lead as Jarrod Bowen latched onto a through ball and fired it into the far corner of Karl Darlow’s goal.

West Ham had done all they could, and they almost got a helping hand from Everton, when Tyrique George denied by Antonín Kinský. But Spurs held on for their first home win in 2026.

Callum Wilson netted a third for the Hammers, but it was too little too late in East London. Nuno Espírito Santo’s side have finished two points below Tottenham, and they will play in the Championship next season.

“Going down with a 3-0 win on Round 38. The ultimate definition of too little, too late,” one fan sighed.

“West Ham you couldn’t have done that earlier in the season,” a second said. And another added: “You can’t leave it to the final stretch and expect other results to save you. That damage was done earlier in the season.”
