Simon Jordan has been slammed as ‘bitter’ before he abruptly ended a radio call-in following his former club Crystal Palace winning the Conference League
Simon Jordan was slammed as “bitter” before he abruptly ended a live radio caller’s debate with a sweary seven-word strop.
Thursday morning has been the time for celebrations, and hangovers, for Crystal Palace fans after the Eagles won their first-ever European trophy and their third piece of silverware in 12 months as Oliver Glasner bowed out by lifting the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Jean-Philippe Mateta’s 50th minute goal was enough to beat a toothless Rayo Vallecano side as the La Liga outfit never looked like having the quality to score. The triumph seals a perfect year for the Eagles in the most successful era in the club’s history. But former owner Jordan has ended up in the spotlight since.

Current co-owner and chairman Steve Parish is living the dream alongside the Palace faithful as the boyhood Eagles fan from Forest Hill celebrated their achievement on the pitch with the players and staff after the game.
Parish led a consortium to buy the club in 2010 and save them from bankruptcy. Palace faced relegation from the Championship and deep financial difficulties before Parish’s takeover, with Jordan’s ownership of the club leaving them on the brink.
Under Parish, Palace have cemented themselves as a Premier League side and now a club with a trophy cabinet. However, despite their climb and Jordan being a supporter of the club, the 58-year-old does not see eye to eye with his successor and does not attend matches.
Therefore his sulky behaviour during a phone-in on talkSPORT after Palace’s European success appeared to leave a bitter taste in his mouth that he couldn’t be the man to deliver such joy to the club.
A clip from the conversation posted on social media showed a fed up Jordan arguing with a Palace fan about his criticism of the ownership not trying to offer Glasner everything he wants to remain in charge of the club after he announced earlier in the season he would step down at the end of the season.
The fan continued to accuse Jordan of not being happy for his former club’s success and called him “bitter” and “twisted” before Jordan called on host Jim White to end the call, saying: “I don’t need this bloody conversation Jim”.
Fans took to the comments to take a pop at Jordan, with one user saying: “Huge fan of watching any Crystal Palace successes from the angle that it’s Simon Jordan, having to watch his ex, love of his life, achieving their lifelong dreams, ones he didn’t think were possible, with the guy they dumped him for. Really adds a cherry on top of the whole thing.”
While a second echoed: “Well done Crystal Palace . They have gone long way from the greatest owner turned best journalist Simon Jordan running them to the ground to winning trophies. Happy for their fans. Living the dream.”
Jordan ended a 15 year wait to watch Palace play again earlier this season when he took his son to watch the Eagles’ trip to Craven Cottage to face Fulham.
Speaking about his return to watch the club, he said: “I’m going to go on Sunday for the first time since I left Palace. First time. It’s a Rubicon I’m crossing, mentally and psychologically. I don’t want to go in the stadium when (Steve) Parish is there.
“I’ve got good reasons for it. Most people would have the same reasons if they’re in my shoes. But I’m going to go to Fulham on Sunday and take my little boy to see his first ever football match and remind him of the fact that his dad used to own this club.
“So I’m going on Sunday to see Palace at Fulham. I’m looking forward to it. It’s the first time I’ve seen them live in 15 years.”
