The start of June will see the UK hit by rain every day for a week as temperatures halve – before more 32C (90F) temperatures follow from later next week.
After the record 35C end-of-May heatwave, forecasters predict rain every day for a week in the South and North. Highs will fall 17C to just 18C in the South and 16C in parts of the North most days this week.
The Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze said: “A big change is on the way.” And a Met Office forecaster said: “After the record heatwave, low pressure arrives to start summer.
“The next week will see rain, brisk winds and lower temperatures.”
But a 1,000 mile wide continental bake is due from June 10 onwards, with up to 32C expected as heat builds.
BBC Weather said: “Mid-June has the potential for hot temperatures.”
A Met Office forecaster said: “Very warm smells are possible as we head further into June.”
A ‘Mediterranean summer’ is on the way with sizzle after sizzle.
The Met Office says a much hotter than normal run to the start of August is eight times more likely than much cooler than average.
The Met Office outlook to the start of August said: “There is an increase chance of warm conditions and heatwaves.”
