Holly Madison has reflected on her time living in the Playboy Mansion, revealing that it was not all sunshine and rainbows being one of the top models. She revealed that the house could be “a little bit scary” at times and has opened up about getting into bed with Hugh.
The mother of two – who dated him from 2001 to 2008 – said she first saw the house as a “safe harbour” but added that there were lots of predatory people waiting to take advantage of young girls who were trying to pave their way in the glamour world. She was just 21 when she moved into the Playboy Mansion.
She said: “I quickly learned how people can turn on each other so quickly.”
“It was very much an ‘everybody out for themselves’ kind of environment.
“I think any time you’re involved in sex work, or anything that’s a more sexualised version of the entertainment industry, people can judge you and want to just write you off.
Madison said she now tries to keep quiet about her sex life with Hugh, saying it was not as seedy as people like to make out.
“People thought I was a gold digger out to steal all of [Hefner’s] money,” she said.
“While living in a nice house is nice, it was never really like that. It was more that I was fascinated by him.”
“I was interested in opportunities that being part of his world could provide, but I was never that person who was trying to get married and steal money or anything like that,” she said.
The former model now has two children – a daughter named Rainbow, 13, and a son named Forest, 9 — both of whom she shares with ex-husband Pasquale Rotella, and she said she tries not to talk about her previous sex escapades with Hugh, purely because she doesn’t want her children reading about it.
“I am at peace with my past, but the only thing that annoys me is when I make headlines for talking about my sex life with Hefner.
“I just didn’t really think anyone would care. And because my kids are getting a little bit older, I kind of have to stop talking about that.”
In May, TMZ reported that she is now with Las Vegas lawyer Steve Dimopoulos but she has yet to confirm or deny that.
She joked: “I would love to get to know somebody for, like, a year before the outside world knows about it. I have notoriously had some bad taste in men in the past.”
