Some members of the Glazer family, the co-owners of Manchester United, are reportedly exploring offloading their stake in the club. The family has controlled the club for more than 20 years, but have faced the wrath of supporter protests.
Financial outlet Bloomberg reports that several members of the family have engaged in ‘internal discussions’ regarding the prospect of de-investing in their stakes, and are hoping to persuade others to follow suit. It’s added that the talks are being conducted by some individual members and not the family collectively, with some opposed to a sale.
That could reportedly complicate any deal, unless they have a change of heart. Prospective buyers would likely encounter a hefty price tag if they wish to purchase a stake in United.

The Daily Star reported in October last year that the Glazers would only entertain offers of more than £5 billion if they were to offload their stake in the club.
The valuation is said to factor in what United will be worth if the club fulfils plans to construct a new 100,000-seater stadium.
Currently, Avram and Joel Glazer serve as executive co-chairmen at United. Kevin Glazer, Bryan Glazer, Darcie Glazer Kassewitz, and Edward Glazer are all listed as directors on the board.
In February 2024, the Glazers flogged a 27.7 per cent stake in the club to Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS business. The businessman stumped up a fee of £1.25 billion to complete the takeover and assume control of football operations.
The most recent New York Stock Exchange figures reveal United is trading at approximately $21 (£15.6), which values the club at roughly $3.6 billion (£2.7 billion). However, the sale price would be considerably steeper given the voting privileges that Glazer shares provide.
There has been talk regarding a potential buyout at Old Trafford for some time. Saudi entrepreneur Turki Al-Sheikh suggested that a takeover was in the pipeline back in October.
He is deeply involved in staging major boxing spectacles. He now appears to be moving closer to a possible acquisition of Championship side Derby County.
