A police probe has been launched after the discovery of a man’s body and the deaths of several dogs inside a house in West Derby, Liverpool.

According to information received earlier today (Sunday, June 7), police officers have been stationed outside the property on Coachmans Drive since Friday evening.

This afternoon, a police car was still present outside the house, and a Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service tent had been set up on the driveway. When asked for a statement, a Merseyside Police spokesperson confirmed they were aware of the incident. The spokesperson stated that at around 6.10pm on Friday, June 5, police received a report of a man in his 70s found deceased inside an address on Coachmans Drive.

At this point, the death is being treated as unexplained, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the incident.

Efforts are also being made to locate the man’s next of kin, and police are urging anyone who believes they may know him to come forward, reports the Liverpool Echo.

A post-mortem examination has been conducted, and toxicology tests are currently underway. Upon arrival at the scene, emergency services found multiple dogs inside the house, some of which had sadly passed away.

As part of the initial investigation, a 55-year-old woman from West Derby has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, carer ill-treatment/wilful neglect of a person, and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.

She has been released on conditional bail pending further investigation. Temporary Detective Chief Superintendent Helen Bennett stated: “Our thoughts at this time are with the family of the man who has sadly passed way.

“As this matter is clearly in the very early stages, we would ask people to avoid speculating and allow us to carry out our enquiries. Although we have arrested a person in connection with the investigation, we are still appealing for anyone with information to come forward.”

An RSPCA spokesperson informed the ECHO: “We have been liaising with Merseyside Police about this, however as this is ongoing, we are limited in what information we can share at this time.”
