Humans have been urged to give aliens the cold shoulder and not reply if extra-terrestrials get in contact with Earth. The advice is part of an eight point plan released by boffins that details exactly what we should do in the event anybody comes across a real life E.T.
The guidelines were published by the International Academy of Aeronautics, a leading research group made up of over 1000 scientists from 97 countries. It comes at a time of increased scrutiny over potential E.T. contact following the release of Donald Trump‘s so-called UFO files in the US.
The report, which contains a total of eight recommendations, aims to “establish best practices . . . for scientists” who run into “extraterrestrial beings”, and outlines exactly how and when the wider public would be informed about alien contact.
Perhaps the most intriguing recommendation in the report is that if E.T.s do get in touch with scientists, “no reply should be sent” back, at least until an “international” discussion on what to respond with has been held.
The report tells scientists that they “should cooperate” about “whether a potential response to a confirmed detection of extraterrestrial intelligence should be made, and if so, what its contents should be”, adding that “these consultations should be conducted through the United Nations and other broadly representative international bodies.”
It continues: “Pending the outcome of such consultations, no reply should be sent.”
The report indicates that further recommendations are to come on exactly what replies will be given in the event of alien contact, saying “The specific procedures for such consultations are to be outlined in a separate agreement, declaration, or arrangement to ensure a coordinated and responsible approach.”
The report also advises scientists and scientific bodies on exactly how and when the global public would be told, and thankfully for alien lovers it seems we will be let in on any ET encounters that take place.
While adding that there is “no obligation to disclose. . .efforts” to contact aliens, the report states that scientists who are successful in doing so should be open with their discoveries.
The report reads: “Institutions and organizations should be responsive to reasonable requests from news organizations, social media platforms, and other public communications media. Responses to inquiries should be prompt, accurate, and honest.”
“. . .Communication about ongoing observations and analyses may be necessary to dispel rumours and provide accurate and reliable information. Similarly, if analysis determines that [alien contact] previously reported is not extraterrestrial in origin, this should be promptly disclosed and clearly communicated.”
In total, the report recommends eight principles for scientists in contact with aliens.
They are as follows:
- Authenticate and substantiate the detection
- Handle information with extreme care
- Be prompt, accurate and honest
- Report conclusions in a full, complete and open manner
- Preserve and disseminate all data
- Protect the evidence of detection
- No reply should be sent
- Adhere to the highest ethical standards
