Singing superstar Shakira wowed fans in her latest music video for the official World Cup song as she ditched a bra in favour of a skimpy outfit
Colombian superstar Shakira has stunned fans in her latest music video by going braless.
The 49-year-old songwriter has once again been tasked with producing the official song of the World Cup, after her hit Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) was used for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. In the video for the new song, Dai Dai, the Whenever, Wherever star teases fans in a series of frilly outfits.
She’s set to perform the song at the World Cup 2026 opening ceremony in Mexico City on Thursday ahead of the hosts’ clash with South Africa. She is also set to co-headline the World Cup final half-time show on July 19, along with Madonna and K-pop mega-stars BTS. With Shakira firmly back in the public eye, we take a closer look at the star’s dating history and a controversial lawsuit.

Shakira’s boyfriend with 15-year age gap
The songstress has courted controversy for her reported relationship with actor Lucien Laviscount, who is 34. Shakira’s age of 49 means there is a hefty 15-year age gap between the two. The pair met while filming her 2024 music video for Punteria, and shortly after, chatter spread that they were dating.
Laviscount, who is well-known for his roles on Waterloo Road and Netflix smash-hit Emily in Paris, was spotted having dinner in New York City with the Hips Don’t Lie icon. They later confirmed their romance through a series of public appearances.
However, it’s unclear if they’re still together after Shakira told The Times in May: “No romance for me for now. There’s no space or time in my life for that. My plate is quite full. My kids are my priority, and my career. Strangely enough, I’m in love with my career as I’ve never been in my life. I’m enjoying my time alone as well.”
£75million lawsuit
Shakira was caught up in a lawsuit with her ex-boyfriend, Antonio de la Rua, whom she met in 2000. Eleven years later they officially announced a ‘temporary’ breakup, assuring the public they’d remain ‘business partners’. However, in December 2012, her ex-partner filed a $100m (£75m) lawsuit against her.
De la Rua insisted he performed a pivotal role in Shakira’s worldwide success, branding himself as “the key architect behind his management team and business strategy,” as per Los40. He demanded a major share of the singer’s future earnings.
Shakira denied engaging in business with De la Rua, stating they were in a relationship and he only acted as her advisor on occasion. Their battle lasted for years and was drawn out with countersuits until the courts ruled against De la Rua in 2013.
Break up with Gerard Pique
Shakira and ex-Spain defender Pique, who is 10 years her junior, met in Madrid during the Rock in Rio festival in 2010. They went on to become one of the world’s biggest power couples and had two children together, Milan and Sasha.
However, in 2022 they officially split up after allegations of infidelity were levelled at the footballer. In an interview with the Times earlier this year, Shakira said the divorce was her “darkest moment.”
“I’ve been through so much pain, but it has made me perhaps in an unforeseen way a wiser person — or stronger, at least,” she added. However, she confirmed she has no ill will toward her ex.
“I will always have that gratitude in my heart for the father of my kids and [for] turning me into the mother that I am today,” she said.
Following her split from Pique, reports surfaced that De la Rua had supported Shakira during her move to Miami. It was unclear if they had sparked a romance again or if it was a business arrangement.
