Mexico and South Africa took to the pitch for the first match of this year’s World Cup, but attention turned to the stands as music superstars Tyla and Becky G watched on
Music superstars Tyla and Becky G were snapped smiling together as they watched the opening clash of the World Cup on Thursday. TV cameras cut to the grinning pair, who were both supporting their native countries, during a hydration break.
Singers Tyla, 24, and Becky G, 29, were just two of tens of thousands of fans who packed into the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on Thursday (June 11) for the opening match. Attention had been on the players on the field as Mexico scored a convincing 2-0 win over South Africa.
But while many people’s attention was on what was happening on the pitch, it was who showed up off the pitch that got people talking. The pair seemed happy as they beamed with smiles and laughed with each other.
As the camera momentarily panned away from the action on the pitch, viewers saw the two artists sitting next to each other high up in the stadium. US-born Mexican superstar Becky G was spotted enjoying the match in an oversized Adidas jersey.
Sporting her country’s colours, the Mercedes singer slicked her hair back into a tight bun as she watched the action unfold between the players. South African star Tyla – who had sung the South African national anthem ahead of kick-off – was also seen watching the match intently as she wore a colourful strapless dress with a messy bun.
Both stars also brought plenty of jewellery for the occasion as Tyla wore a pair of silver embossed earrings and a slew of rings on her hands. While Becky G rocked a long golden necklace with a cross with a large pair of rose gold hoops.
Fans were quick to point out the pair sitting next to each other as a screenshot of the pair watching the game was uploaded to social media as fans were left hot under the collar with their flawless looks.
One user shared: “Becky G officially becomes Mexico’s lucky charm”, as the host nation easily came out on top at the end of the match. A second simply wrote: “Face card d’Or,” referencing football’s biggest indvidual accolade.
A third joked: “Three red cards, I know they’re looking down in disgust, lmao.” While a fourth said: “They going baddie for baddie!”
Mexico got their home World Cup off to the perfect start, beating Bafana Bafana 2-0 in a chaotic clash that also saw three red cards.
Group A will continue in the early hours of Friday morning, as South Korea clash with Czechia in Guadalajara.
