Fans are unhappy with Katy Perry’s “low-key” performance before the first 2026 World Cup game on American soil last night.

Over 70,000 ‘soccer’ fans crammed into SoFi Stadium on Friday (June 12) to watch the US batter Paraguay 4-1. Before the match was underway, California Gurls hitmaker Perry waltzed onto the ground in what was dubbed an “astronaut’s costume” (it was a silver dress) and performed an album track called Wonder to the braying crowds.

Many people online were left unimpressed by the pop singer’s performance and used their God-given right to voice their disdain on the internet.

On X fans rounded on Perry, with one writing: “What a train wreck of a performance. She sounded terrible.”

Another added “hilarious dress”, with some joking she was returning to her astronaut days by dressing up like a spaceship.

One fan expressed cogently: “This sucks”, and another hammered onto a keyboard in a fit of incandescent rage: “Get this s*** out of here.”

Daily Star cannot confirm whether any of these online trolls have ever had an attempt at a music career – aside from butchering Sweet Caroline on karaoke – themselves. We assume they have not.

Not everyone thought it was “s***”, by the way. One person gushed: “A presentation to fill the eyes with emotion and pride of an artist as incredible as @katyperry. And for those who are knowing her for this beautiful presentation, please listen to her discography!”

US ‘soccer’ fans queued outside the LA stadium for hours to take their spot inside the arena, which is usually home to the NFL’s Rams and Chargers.

Perry’s supposedly lacklustre performance came after rising star rappers Future and Tyla had given a “goated” performance of their hit Game Time.

Maybe fans of the bubblegum pop musician Perry were just too buzzing after watching some more energetic artist, to fully appreciate ‘Wonder’.
