A terrifying shooting has unfolded in New York’s iconic Times Square. Footage from the scene shows pedestrians running for their lives as a volley of gunshots ring out.
Police are understood to have one suspect in custody and have recovered a firearm. No injuries have been reported. An aerial video of Times Square shows crowds fleeing for their lives after eight shots were fired.
Last night, hundreds of Brits gathered in Times Square to watch England take on Croatia. Gary Lineker’s The Rest Is Football also has an office overlooking the iconic tourist attraction.
A video purporting to be of the incident showed a man recording a fight before the gunfire started. He can be heard saying: “Times Square is f***** up. Look these guys are on the street fighting.”
The gunshots are heard before the man says: “You heard that right? You heard that right? People are shooting and all types of s*** is going on.”
An office worker in the area said a “shelter in place order” was active at his workplace. He said: “What did some idiot in times square do?”
