Footage captured on a Ryanair flight from Edinburgh to Palma de Mallorca shows a drunk passenger allegedly punching a police officer during an arrest, leaving fellow holidaymakers scared and stunned
A drunken passenger was caught on camera striking an officer during an arrest on a flight – terrifying holidaymakers.
Ritchie Denholm looked on in disbelief after one traveller clashed with several guards who had boarded the aircraft to eject him. The 40-year-old rapidly pulled out his phone to film the drama when the disruptive man landed a punch on one of the officers’ face.
According to Ritchie, a man and woman at the front of the aircraft were heavily ‘intoxicated’ when they got on board. “They were very drunk before leaving Edinburgh, lover’s tiff and it all started,” Ritchie, from Edinburgh, told NeedToKnow.
“The crew intervened until landing, then when they found out they’re getting arrested they started again. Some passengers were scared and shocked.”
The disturbing confrontation occurred on a Ryanair flight from Edinburgh airport to Palma de Mallorca Airport.
Ritchie alleged the pair had been intoxicated before they even stepped onto the plane, which departed on June 16.
The footage shows several officers making their way towards the unruly couple. One officer begins wrestling with the man to eject him before being struck in the face.
The video then cuts to three male officers restraining the man with one apparently hitting him. Another officer can be seen striking the man with a baton-like object.
Ritchie said: “If I’m honest they should’ve been battered more. No one should put anyone at risk on a flight considering things that have happened on flights in the past.
“There should be more security on flights to stop anyone intoxicated getting on.”
Ryanair has been approached for a comment.
Meanwhile, Boisterous Brits transformed their flight into an unforgettable experience after they “threw a party” in the aisle of a Ryanair aircraft.
Passenger TJ Wright was left gobsmacked after her trip abroad for a festival turned into chaotic mid-air dancing. The 28-year-old solo traveller witnessed the raucous behaviour of fellow passengers who began celebrating in the aisle.
The solar panel company manager filmed the scenes on her Ryanair flight that left her in fits of laughter. “Everyone was strangers on this flight and we all became one,” TJ, from Thurrock, Essex, told NeedToKnow. “I must say, as a solo traveller I had one of the best flights just due to everyone being ready to party.
“All of the passengers just broke out with cheers, music and a ‘party’.”
TJ was travelling from London Stansted to Malta for a dance music festival – with fellow Brits getting the celebrations started early.
According to TJ, the flight transformed into a party after one passenger hurled a bottle at another. The troublemaker was apparently fed up with the racket coming from the seats behind her.
