Kevin Kerjean, 31, appeared in court accused of murder and sexual offences following the discovery of a two-year-old girl’s body at a property in Chertsey, Surrey
Police have identified the man charged with murder after the body of a two-year-old girl was discovered at a property. Surrey Police confirmed this afternoon (Saturday, June 27) that Kevin Kerjean, 31, has been charged with the offence alongside counts of rape of a child under 13 and sexual assault of a child under 13.
Officers have also revealed that Kerjean is a French national who was born in the Central African Republic. He appeared before Guildford Magistrates’ Court today and has been remanded in custody ahead of his next hearing at Guildford Crown Court on Monday, June 29.
Police were called to Pyrcroft Road in Chertsey, Surrey on Thursday evening (June 25) around 5.40pm after receiving reports of concern for safety and upon arrival discovered a two-year-old girl dead inside the premises. Officers have today clarified the victim was two years old despite initially stating her age as three.
The major crime team continues its investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death. A Surrey Police spokesperson said: “At this stage, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.”
Surrey Police have also dismissed inaccurate reports circulating online which claimed the address is an active asylum seeker HMO (Houses in Multiple Occupation). It is not, reports MyLondon.
Detective Chief Superintendent Jon Groenen said: “This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the child’s family, as well as all those who knew her.
“Our teams are working hard to build a picture of what happened, and a significant police presence will remain in Pyrcroft Road over the coming days.
“We appreciate that the incident itself, as well as the significant police presence, will be concerning for residents and we would like to thank them for their cooperation as we conduct our investigation.”
