The young girl was left pregnant after the horror attack in which four men have been jailed for nearly 100 years.
Four men have been jailed for a total of 95 years after they gang raped a 13-year-old girl, leaving her pregnant. The monsters – named locally as Salisu Baura, Lawali Sha’ibu, Haruna Sa’idu, and Bello – have been jailed after a trial found them guilty of charges of a joint act and unlawful sexual intercourse with a child.
The horror attack happened in 2023 and saw the men take turns attacking her before they threw her out, giving her money as if she were a sex worker. The young girl, who has not been identified, went to the police who launched an immediate investigation and managed to track down the perpetrators.
The four attackers were arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kontagora Divisional Command before being transferred to custody ahead of their prosecution.
Once the men were identified and arrested, detectives used a medical report confirming penetration, as well as the victim’s statement to present to the court as evidence. The group admitted to raping the girl then changed their pleas to not guilty, meaning the case went to a full trial and the girl had to give evidence.
The horror rape happened in the city of Kontagora in the Niger State of Nigeria.
The attackers were found guilty after the trial and have been jailed for a total of 95 years. They were found guilty of two counts: joint act punishable under Section 97 of the Penal Code Law, and unlawful sexual intercourse with a child under Section 26(1) of the Child Rights Law of Niger State, 2023.
Senior Magistrate Christy Barau, during sentencing, described the crime as “animalistic, inhumane, and heartless”. She also spoke out about “the rise of rape cases, particularly against children, across the state and wider country.”
Salisu Baura, Lawali Sha’ibu, Haruna Sa’idu were all sentenced to 25 years behind bars each, while the fourth, Bello, was sentenced to 20 years for unlawful sexual intercourse with a child.
