A UK travel firm has collapsed into administration after 24 years of trading. Groupia Ltd, a Bath-based company specialising in group travel throughout the UK and Europe, went into administration on June 16, with some upcoming holidays and events now axed.

The firm arranged an array of group getaways, including stag and hen dos, golf breaks, team tours, spa retreats, ski trips and adventure holidays to destinations such as Prague, Split and Barcelona. Since its launch in 2002, over 750,000 people have travelled with the business, which also operated under the brands Groupia Golf, GoHen, StagWeb, Groupia School Trips and Company Away Days.

A statement posted on the company’s website confirms that Nigel Fox and Christopher Marsden of S&W Partners LLP have been appointed as Joint Administrators. It reads: “Nigel Fox and Christopher Marsden of S&W Partners LLP appointed as Joint Administrators.

“The Company has now ceased taking new bookings, and arrangements are in place with ABTOT (a UK government-approved travel protection scheme) to support customers with existing bookings.”

Customers with holidays or events booked on or before August 31 are anticipated to be able to travel as scheduled, with the company stating ABTOT has “arrangements in place” and the bookings are “expected to go ahead as planned”, reports the Express.

Those customers can continue to manage their reservations using Groupia’s existing VIP booking system. However, those with reservations from 1 September onwards have been informed that their plans will not proceed.

The website declares: “Your event will unfortunately be cancelled and is subject to a refund claim.”

Customers who made payment via credit or debit card might be able to reclaim their funds through their card provider by requesting either a credit card refund or a debit card chargeback.

Groupia has also provided template letters that customers can forward to their banks. Those who paid using a different method can lodge an online claim with Gallagher Bassett, which represents ABTOT.

Customers submitting an online claim will need to supply their booking confirmation and evidence of payment. The company has cautioned that refund claims could take up to six weeks to be processed.
