Birmingham: Police attend incident on Church Street

A street in the West Midlands has been closed off after a teenage has been left fighting for his life after reportedly been stabbed.

A 19-year-old is believed to have suffered life threatening injuries and has been rushed to hospital after the incident near the Wetherspoon pub in Oldbury.

Police say they were called following an altercation between a group of teens in Market Street, reports BirminghamLive.

West Midlands Police issued a statement and said a 19-year-old is currently in hospital with injuries believed to be life-threatening.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Market Street, at 12.15pm today (July 2) to reports of an altercation between a group of teenagers.

“Injuries are believed to be life-threatening and officers were called to Market Street. An investigation has been launched following a stabbing in Oldbury.

“Officers were called to Market Street, at 12.15pm today (July 2) to reports of an altercation between a group of teenagers. A 19-year-old boy has been taken to hospital with injuries believed to be life-threatening.

“We are in the very early stages of our investigation and officers remain on scene carrying out enquiries and speaking to people in the area.

“We know this will be worrying for residents in the local area, so would encourage anyone with any concerns to speak to one of our patrolling officers.
