With Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce set to tie the knot, the Prince of Wales has jokingly hit out at the NFL star and revealed what the King really thinks of the sport
Prince William has jokingly slammed Travis Kelce after he branded football “soccer” instead. He also admitted that he thinks that England do have a sneaking chance to win this year’s World Cup
The Prince of Wales, 44, joined Travis − who is getting hitched to Taylor, 36, this weekend − and brother Jason on their New Heights podcast. Airing just hours before the couple are set to tie the knot, William joined the brothers to talk all things football as the US continues to co-host the World Cup with Canada and Mexico.
The royal also opened up on how the legendary snap with Taylor and his kids came about. Travis would reveal the pair were “so nervous” to meet the royals.
William explained how his hopes in England have risen as the tournament has gone on, saying: “I’m taking it calmly and quietly and like, come on, we’re going to do well and see how we go. But I am quietly confident.” But he explained how the results can end up completely ruining his mood.
“My weekend goes from being either the best we can in the world when we win. Or frankly, I don’t want to see anyone on Monday morning because I’m really down.
“And that lasts for quite a few days. So, you know, you guys get that in other ways. But I think if you can attach that to football as well, then you – or soccer – then you get it.”
William also praised England manager Thomas Tuchel’s style of football, saying that he has got the Three Lions into a “good frame of mind” for the tournament. Giving his view of how the team is playing, Wills said England were playing with “more freedom” and “fluidity”.
He added: “I think Gareth, who was the previous manager, his philosophy was very much of defence. So if we don’t let goals in, we’ll win. Thomas, I think, prefers to go a bit more out there, and if we lose, we lose playing the way we want to play.”
The future monarch also gave his dad’s view of the entire World Cup, admitting King Charles is very much not interested in the sport. When asked if the King was his inspiration for loving football, William shot back: “Absolutely not, my father hates football.”
Elsewhere in the interview, William spoke about how it was to meet Travis and Taylor back in 2024. The Blank Space star went on to snap a photo with William and his kids in the midst of her Eras Tour, and the snap soon went viral.
Travis called at the time: “We were so nervous to meet you guys and the royal family. And Jason has this running joke where he didn’t know what to do with his beer.”
