A group of Brits were left in disbelief after they were allegedly “attacked for wearing England shirts”. Natalie Brookfield shared how events unfolded as events suddenly turned chaotic
The World Cup has football enthusiasts around the globe captivated, with some even heading abroad to soak up the sport and party atmosphere. However, for one group of Brits, it appears things took a turn for the worse as they were reportedly “attacked for wearing England shirts”.
Natalie Brookfield recounted the alleged incident that unfolded at a popular holiday spot, leaving her and her friends quite taken aback. In a frank TikTok video, she detailed the events in Benidorm, showing their reddened and sore eyes, which has left viewers utterly astounded that such an incident could occur during the World Cup.
This isn’t the first time the tourist hotspot has made headlines recently. Previously, reports emerged of deserted sunbeds at the destination for a completely unexpected reason.
Over footage of the group sporting their England shirts, Natalie wrote: “Wearing an England top to Benidorm? Apparently that’s a sprayable offence.
“Three girls and two guys pepper sprayed us for no reason. To anyone in Benidorm wearing England shirts, stay alert. We weren’t the only ones this happened to.”
In the video, the three friends can be seen wearing their England shirts, looking visibly uncomfortable. Their eyes appear to be sore following the alleged assault, and they seem utterly bewildered by the incident.
The video has since become a sensation, racking up more than 50,000 views. Over 1,000 people have also weighed in with their reactions and messages of support.
One person wrote: “Benidorm in 2026 is crazy.” Another chimed in: “Me and my friends wore NUFC tops in Benidorm and only received love from everyone. I’m sorry to hear this.”
A third responded: “It’s a terrible shame. Benidorm was once the party and fun centre. Very sad world we live in.”
Meanwhile, a fourth person observed: “I have been going to Benidorm for 10+ years and unfortunately, over the past two years, I have seen more of this. I won’t stop going, but I will say don’t let it put you off going back and hope you are good.”
Someone else also pointed out: “I was in Benidorm on Monday. Loads wearing England tops! No problems.”
It’s clearly struck a chord with many, as holidaymakers appear to have had vastly different experiences at the popular resort. For Natalie though, it’s obvious the group were left rather shaken, though it remains unknown whether they reported what happened.
Do tourists head to Benidorm for World Cup action?
What you might not realise is that thousands of British holidaymakers descend on Benidorm to catch World Cup matches. Plenty of supporters opt for the Spanish hotspot rather than jetting off to the tournament venues.
A five-day break in Benidorm frequently works out cheaper than a single game ticket in the US, while flights from the UK to neighbouring Alicante experience great surges throughout the competition.
