Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have tied the knot in a lavish and star-studded ceremony at New York’s Madison Square Garden with the Empire State Building lighting up for the couple
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have exchanged vows in an extravagant and celebrity-packed ceremony at New York’s Madison Square Garden – but what was it like?
The festivities stretched well into the early hours following the transformation of the legendary venue into an enchanting romantic setting, adorned with real trees and blooming flowers creating a flourishing rural atmosphere.
Insiders have characterised the magical backdrop as “Alice in Wonderland meets Wizard of Oz” – a secluded garden nestled within the Garden. The delighted pair delivered numerous unexpected moments, beginning with Hollywood star Adam Sandler officiating the wedding.
Swift’s publicist, Tree Paine, confirmed there were no bridesmaids or groomsmen, despite the couple’s myriad of famous friends. Rather, NFL star Kelce, 36, selected his sibling and New Heights podcast partner Jason as his best man, while Swift’s brother, Austin, acted as her man of honour.
Taylor, 36, had her four nieces, the daughters of Jason and Kylie Kelce, as her flower girls, scattering petals at her feet as she walked down the aisle, reports the Mirror.
Swift expert Anna Pointer, who penned the biography Taylor in Love, told the Mirror witnessing such numerous memorable instances throughout the occasion came as “no surprise”.
The Swifty said: “It’s Taylor, so it’s no surprise there were lots of surprises. She does like to do things that people aren’t expecting. Having the four gorgeous Kelce daughters was so much more personal and intimate than the rumoured 13 bridesmaids. You don’t want to crowd out the bride on her big day. So it became all about Taylor, which it should be.
“Adam Sandler officiating was something that nobody saw coming. He’s really close to them both and got to know Travis really well on the set of Happy Gilmore 2. They have a bromance going on and a very similar sense of humour. Neither of them takes life too seriously.
“Adam kept things light at the wedding. The tone was humorous as well as touching. He’s also very close to Taylor as well and his daughters worship her.”
Following a bombardment of proposals from designers, the couple opted for outfits by Jonathan Anderson, the creative director of Christian Dior. Taylor stunned in a white floor-length haute couture gown featuring a striking train, alongside bespoke Christian Louboutin footwear and Cartier jewellery.
Taylor’s publicist stated: “This is the designer’s first couture wedding dress for a world-renowned celebrity.”
“While it was private, a lot of effort went into that dress and she won’t want to hide it away,” Pointer added, forecasting that Taylor will be posting photographs on social media shortly.
“It was a big moment for the Dior team too. They will be wanting the whole world to see.”
It’s also whispered that a camera crew was on hand to capture every moment of the day.
“Taylor will want to share the day with fans who’ve supported her for years. It was a moment of complete happiness and bliss.”
After the ceremony, “Just Married” billboards were showcased outside Madison Square Garden, where fans congregated to celebrate, belting out songs and brandishing posters in honour of the nuptials.
In the meantime, the Empire State Building was illuminated as Taylor’s very extravagant “something blue.”
There had been some controversy over the closure of streets around Madison Square Garden for the event, with nearly 200 NYPD officers deployed to ensure tight security.
Pointer stated: “It’s not the first time the Empire State Building has been lit up in Taylor’s honour. The great and good of New York obviously see her as one of her own and it was a proud moment for the city.”
“If there was any sense of residents being put out by the street closures, then the $26million they donated to various charities really made a statement. It said, ‘Look we are giving back, we’ve given something to these worthwhile charities.’ Who can resent that when they are doing so much good?” Among the 1,000 guests, numerous celebrities were spotted arriving via white marquees positioned outside the venue, with some opting to stroll up to the arena.
“They had a tunnel of tents that the cars were supposed to pull into so we wouldn’t see anyone, but it was quite the opposite,” said Pointer.
“A lot of people actually wanted to be seen. If you had an invite to that wedding, you’d want people to know. That’s why we saw so many celebrities leaving their hotels and even choosing to walk there on foot. People thought, ‘No, I’m not sitting in this queue of stretch limos. I want to be seen at the wedding of the century.’ There were some fabulous outfits too.”
Jay-Z, Gigi Hadid, Bradley Cooper, Ed Sheeran and Hugh Grant were amongst those spotted making their way into the legendary location. Attendees were obliged to sign non-disclosure agreements to prevent information leaking and safeguard the pair’s privacy.
Nevertheless, AMC Theatres CEO Adam Aron seemed to disclose numerous particulars in a subsequently removed social media update.
Aron, whose firm collaborated with Swift to release the blockbuster Eras Tour concert movie, revealed the floors, walls and ceilings were adorned in peach and white. He characterised the vows as “long, entertaining, personal, charming, emotional, irreverent and endearing explorations”, noting that Taylor and Travis concluded the proceedings with a passionate kiss.
“Large, blown-up childhood photos of Taylor and Travis from age one to their late teens were prominently displayed,” disclosed Aron. He portrayed Travis as appearing “handsome” in a white dinner jacket and Taylor as “jaw-dropping” in a breath-taking white bridal gown.
While the wedding reception boasted a stellar line-up rivalling major festivals, featuring Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks and Tim McGraw taking to the stage. Following her walk down the aisle to one of her own tracks, Taylor is also believed to have taken the microphone later that evening as celebrations stretched well into the night.
According to Pointer, the musical performances would have formed a crucial element of the day for the songstress.
“It’s her passion in life. Sir Paul McCartney probably played a couple of songs and Taylor’s a massive Stevie Nicks fan so that would have been a dream come true for her.
“It was the party of their lives. A lot of money was spent, and it would have been truly epic. There will be a few sore heads today. It’s incredible they managed to pull it off with such secrecy until the final minute.”
Travis and Taylor started their romance in 2023 after the Kansas City Chiefs star disclosed on his New Heights podcast that he had wished to present the performer with a friendship bracelet and his telephone number at one of her Eras Tour shows.
They revealed their engagement last August through a shared Instagram post that quipped: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
