Wimbledon star Flavio Cobolli made sure he didn’t finish number two against Karen Khachanov at Wimbledon despite battling a troublesome tummy.

The Italian was flushed away 6-0 in the opening set, conceding it in just 18 minutes. Following an urgent dash to the loo and a consultation with the medic, Cobolli returned to Court 2 a little lighter.

And it was clear to see. He fought for one hour and 10 minutes without interruption to secure the second set tie-break. From that point, he completed a 0-6, 7-6(4), 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-2 triumph.

The No. 9 seed was questioned on court after securing his spot in the fourth round and he remarked: “I felt some strange feelings in my stomach and then the doctor helped me. When I came back from the bathroom I was ok.”

The interviewer interjected: “Maybe a little bit too much information [chuckles].”

Cobolli continued: “Now I’m just tired. Not any more with the stomach. I am looking forward to the next one.”

Cobolli dashed back onto the court following his victory to mimic Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha’s goal celebration. He crouched down, put his arms out wide and began to shimmy side to side as he was applauded by the thousands in attendance.

Explaining the celebration, he said: “It was a bet with my coach. We were watching the World Cup and this is the Brazilian striker that I love to repeat.

“It’s three days late to do this but today I couldn’t forget.”

And now it’s time to head for dinner with his team – with him footing the bill after pocketing £300,000.

He added: “Now is time to recover. I’m going to have a good dinner with the team, I’ll pay, and it’s a good time to celebrate this amazing win.”
