Michael Carrick faces a busy transfer window

Manchester United are facing a crucial transfer window as Michael Carrick seeks to bolster his squad. The club are preparing for a return to the Champions League next season but must recruit to remain competitive across multiple competitions.

Brazilian midfielder Ederson has virtually completed his switch from Atalanta as the club address Casemiro’s exit. Further midfield additions are anticipated, though United have witnessed several of their targets, including Mateus Fernandes, join their Premier League competitors.

Carrick will be eager to reinforce more than one department of his side this summer, with United’s wide options also facing examination. Marcus Rashford’s situation remains uncertain after Barcelona opted against making his loan spell permanent, while the club have been linked with a potential swoop for West Ham United attacker Crysencio Summerville. Here, the Daily Star Sport looks at some of the major stories surrounding United.

West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville is reportedly United’s primary wide target. The 24-year-old can now concentrate fully on his future following the Netherlands’ penalty shootout defeat to Morocco in the World Cup’s round of 32.

Sky Sports claims that Summerville represents United’s “number one target” for the left wing, though they face rivalry from other Premier League sides for his services. The Dutchman has previously carried a £50million price tag.

The report states that United have conducted preliminary discussions with the Hammers, while clarity regarding Summerville’s future is anticipated following his World Cup elimination. The Dutch international netted twice and registered two assists across four tournament appearances.

Marcus Rashford has maintained that he will not make any decisions regarding his future during the World Cup. The England striker remains a United player after Barcelona opted against triggering their £26m purchase option earlier this summer.

“I was very clear with everyone involved before the World Cup, I wanted it (a move) done before,” Rashford stated. “If it’s not, I wanted it to wait until after. I want to be fully present in the moment. We’re fighting for something special.”

Rashford earned selection in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad after bagging 14 goals and contributing 14 assists for Barcelona. Meanwhile, United manager Michael Carrick utilised Patrick Dorgu and Matheus Cunha as his left-sided attackers during Rashford’s absence last season.
