Rugby League star collapses throughout match as recreation stopped in worrying scenes

Action was halted during the Magic Weekend encounter between St Helens and Wigan Warriors after Nathan Lowe appeared to collapse following an injury.

Lowe had been delivering a solid performance in just his second Super League appearance for the Cherry and Whites, but his day was brought to an abrupt end shortly before half-time at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The young winger was forced into touch by a group of Saints defenders, and, as they dispersed, it swiftly became clear that Lowe had sustained what looked like a severe leg injury. Medical personnel rushed to assist him and eventually managed to get him to his feet to guide him towards the tunnel.

Nevertheless, as they escorted Lowe along the sideline, the Wigan player seemed to collapse. Paramedics dashed to help him and got him back on his feet.

However, Lowe appeared to lose consciousness again and had to be placed on the ground near the touchline,

Referee Chris Kendall decided to stop the match due to Lowe’s state, and several minutes passed before the final moments of the opening period could be concluded, with Lowe positioned on a stretcher and carried down the tunnel.

Broadcaster Sky Sports later revealed that Lowe had suffered a drop in blood pressure as he was being helped from the field, which caused him to pass out. National World reporter Drew Darbyshire took to social media to share his perspective from the stands regarding the incident.

He posted: “Looks pretty grim for Wigan youngster Nathan Lowe. He is assisted from the field by a couple of members of staff after landing awkwardly. Sad blow for the young winger, who came in to replace Noah Hodkinson for this game.”

Clark was also carried off the pitch on a stretcher following several minutes receiving treatment on the touchline. He wasn’t the first player to depart the field due to injury.

Daryl Clark and Ethan Havard had both exited the match for head injury assessments shortly before the incident involving Lowe unfolded.

At that point the Warriors and Saints were engaged in a thrilling encounter at the Brick Community Stadium. Saints grabbed the lead when Jackson Hastings slotted over a penalty goal after 13 minutes.

Nevertheless, it was the home team who crossed for the opening try of the contest. Adam Keighran touched down first when he made a late surge down the right flank and collected a perfectly weighted pass from Jack Farrimond.
