The England players’ partners have taken to social media to share their joy following the victory over Mexico.

The Three Lions secured their spot in the World Cup quarter-finals with a thrilling 3-2 win against the tournament co-hosts at the Azteca Stadium on Sunday night.

Jude Bellingham made history as the first player to score a brace at the stadium since Diego Maradona’s goals against England four decades ago, both of which were scored before half time. Mexico managed to pull one back before the break, leading to nationwide anxiety when Jarell Quansah was shown a red card in the 54th minute.

Luckily, Harry Kane netted his sixth goal of the tournament on the hour mark after Anthony Gordon was fouled in the penalty area. Nine minutes later, the England skipper conceded a penalty himself, resulting in a tense final half an hour, which they managed to see out despite being down to ten men.

The final whistle sparked wild celebrations among the travelling England fans, who once again sang Oasis’ Wonderwall in front of the exhausted but joyous players. Also present were several of the Three Lions stars’ girlfriends, fiancés and wives.

Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford’s wife, Megan, had earlier posted a clip from the players’ family section of the stands on her Instagram story ahead of kick-off. She captioned it: “Let’s go,” along with a love heart.

That turned into pure elation after a nail-biting two hours, having reposted her husband’s celebratory post on her story with the caption: “No words for your magic tonight.” She followed it up by sharing a picture of her kissing the shot-stopper in the stands.

Tolami Benson, Bukayo Saka’s fiancé, was also delighted after the Arsenal winger assisted Bellingham’s opener with an exquisite cross. Saka was withdrawn in the 56th minute following Quansah’s dismissal.

Benson uploaded footage of the post-match chaos for her 300,000 Instagram followers, showing herself in the stands where Mexico fans were throwing and pouring drinks onto the England section from the upper tiers. She remained unbothered, however, as she also posted a clip of her section belting out Angels by Robbie Williams in celebration.

Meanwhile, captain Kane’s wife, Kate, posted a selfie after the victory on her story of her looking delighted. She captioned it: “Let’s gooooo England!!! WHAT A TEAM,” along with a St George’s flag.

She then uploaded a photo of herself sitting in the stands alongside Kane, who has now become the fifth highest goal-scorer in World Cup history, with the pair beaming from ear to ear.
