CCTV captured the horror moment Ramon Logan, 42, was brutally assaulted in the early hours of the morning after a night out in Oldham, Greater Manchester – he died two years later
A devoted dad who went out to watch the football which ended up costing him his life. Ramon Logan had been out watching the Euros final on 14 July 2024. He’d seen England face off against Spain at a local rugby club before heading out for drinks in Oldham.
Just hours later, he was critically injured and rushed to hospital after falling victim to a savage attack in the early hours of the next morning. He was knocked to the ground and brutally assaulted.
After a two-year battle for his life, the father-of-four tragically passed away aged 42 on 30 June. His wife Charlotte shared in a social media post that Ramon, affectionately known as Ray to those close to him, had ‘fought so hard’ and was now ‘at peace’ following his harrowing ordeal.
Ramon had spent time in hospital with severe and life-altering injuries following the assault. His attacker, Sebastian Jones, was subsequently imprisoned, reports the Manchester Evening News.
A court heard how he initiated the assault around 4am.
CCTV footage captured the moment Jones exited a nightclub, approached Ramon and punched him. The force of the attack caused the father to fall to the ground, where Jones continued his assault on the defenceless man.
Bystanders desperately intervened and alerted the police to the incident on Yorkshire Street, who found Ramon on the ground with serious head injuries. Tragically, he never fully recovered.
Jones eluded the police for a week, prompting a manhunt, before he was apprehended in Bury and charged with S18 assault. After a three-day trial, Jones, from Dickens Street in Oldham, was found guilty and sentenced to seven years in prison.
This wasn’t his first stint behind bars. In 2023, Jones was one of two brutes who extorted an innocent mother into handing over thousands of pounds to settle her ex-partner’s drug debts in what a judge labelled a ‘frightening incident’.
He was then incarcerated again in April 2025 for the attack on Ramon in Oldham town centre. Sent to Forest Bank prison, he was later discovered to be posting on social media and sharing photos of himself grinning from his cell just days after being imprisoned while Ramon battled for his life.
In one photo, he is seen posing with another prisoner, smiling, with the caption ‘Laugh Now Cry Later’ accompanied by a lock and key emoji. In a second picture, he is posing with two other inmates in what seems to be a shared space.
Meanwhile, Charlotte Logan, Ramon’s wife since they wed in 2021, was at her husband’s bedside hoping he would recover. At the time, she stated in an online post: “There is a still a long long way to go so please keep us in your prayers and I will let you all know his progress. In sickness and in health baby you got this.”
Following Jones being eventually jailed for the assault, Detective Superintendent Walker, from GMP’s Oldham district, said: “The level of violence displayed by Jones was completely unacceptable and cowardly. The victim was defenceless on the ground, and Jones carried out a sustained attack, causing significant injuries which have left a lasting impact on the victim and his family.
“Ray never stopped fighting to get better”.
Two years later, it was confirmed that Ramon had tragically passed away. A murder inquiry has now been opened by Greater Manchester Police officers.
A Home Office post-mortem examination has been carried out and additional investigations are being undertaken to establish the cause of death.
Charlotte said in a statement: “It is with a broken heart I announce the passing of my beautiful husband, Ray Logan, on June 30. Ray was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend to many, and will be missed immensely by everyone who knew him.
“Ray was a part of so many people’s lives, and as much as we all have our existing memories to remember him by, it is heart-breaking that we won’t get to make any new ones. Ray never stopped fighting to get better for the last two years, all we can wish for now is that he gets the justice he deserves.”
In another heart-wrenching tribute on social media, Dale Lowe penned: “I can’t believe I’m writing this. I’m heartbroken. For the last two years, you fought so hard for a different outcome. No matter how many setbacks you faced, no matter how many times it felt like you were back to square one, you never stopped fighting right until the very end.
“Thank you for the memories, and thank you for being a true friend. It’s weird, but I feel like I’ve been grieving you for the last two years. There have been so many times I’ve wanted to pick up the phone to you, ask for advice, have a laugh, or just talk about life. Through it all, I always held onto that little bit of hope that one day we’d get that back.”
Jodie Chadwick also shared her feelings in a social media post: “I have never witnessed strength like it the fight you gave! ! But you are finally free from all suffering. We honestly cant believe your gone.”
No arrests have been made as yet, but detectives are persisting with their investigations. Detective Inspector Andy Day, from GMP’s Oldham district, stated: “We know how difficult and painful the last two years have been for Ramon’s family, and we are continuing to support them following his death last week.
“We have now launched a murder investigation, and are keeping his family updated as we progress our enquiries. We are assessing all available material and will be making further reviews in due course.”
