Norway’s staff were left furious during their World Cup quarter-final against England as a Three Lions icon joked that footage should be lost due to the controverisal nature
Norwegian staff were left livid during their World Cup quarter-final with England when they thought England’s equaliser should have been ruled out.
The Scandinavian side had taken the lead after Andreas Schjelderup thundered the ball past Jordan Pickford. However, they were quickly pegged back when Jude Bellingham proved his class.
At half-time, the Norway bench was left fuming at the officials. And, according to BBC Sounds, their fury was soon uncovered as it was revealed there claims that the ball hit the spider cam in the build-up.
Norwegian coaching staff alleged that the ball had the cable and bounced down to Gordon, who provided Bellingham with the assist.
Paul Robinson, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live joked if any British broadcaster had the footage they should “lose it quickly”.
And their fury was only compounded when they had a goal ruled out after Erling Haaland man handled Elliot Anderson in the area before a corner – leading it to be retaken under the new VAR rules.
“So before the 1-1 England the ball hits the wire on the spider cam. And now VAR takes away a goal for us… Well, well, one fan posted.
A second shared: “I thought it was a meme but the start of the play for England’s goal hit the cable of the spider cam!”
“Apparently, Bellingham’s goal shouldn’t have counted, because the ball hit the cable of the Sky (or Spider) Cam during the kickoff from Norway,” a third said. And another added: “England goal shouldn’t have stood ball hit the cable for the spider cam on Nylands kick out.”
