Glam TV star Bárbara de Regil was rushed for emergency checks after a terrifying mix-up saw her swallow bleach thinking it was a bottle of water.

The Rosario Tijeras actress told fans the accident happened at her home in Mexico on Sunday (July 12), when she spotted an unlabelled bottle that looked like ordinary drinking water.

In Instagram story videos, Bárbara explained she believed the bottle had been left behind by her husband, Fernando, and grabbed it without thinking twice. But in a scary oversight, she failed to clock a cleaning bucket sitting right next to it — a clue that the liquid wasn’t for drinking at all.

Seconds later, she took a big gulp. The actress said she instantly noticed a harsh chemical taste and a burning sensation. She then reportedly realised in horror she had swallowed chlorine or household bleach.

Panicking, she sought medical help immediately and went straight to a doctor for emergency treatment and assessment, EXPRESS NOTICIAS reported. Reports from Infobae and Milenio said doctors were able to evaluate her quickly to make sure the corrosive chemical hadn’t caused serious internal damage to her throat or digestive tract.

Bárbara later reassured worried followers that she is safe, stable and doing well. She further described the incident as a “major scare” rather than a tragedy before confirming she is now out of danger, AS Mexico reported.

Following her doctor’s orders, she urged people never to store cleaning products in unlabelled bottles – and especially not in everyday drink containers – because it can lead to horrific household accidents in a split second.

Bárbara has since continued posting video updates during her recovery, telling fans she’s “perfectly fine” and hoping others learn from her bleach-bottle nightmare.

This comes after UK households were warned not to pour certain bottles of alcohol down their kitchen sink. With many people taking time off work during the summer, some will be looking to relax with their favourite drink, the Daily Star previously reported.

But if that drink is a cream liqueur, it’s worth being careful or risk plumbing issues. Experts at SAGE noted: “Cream liqueurs have enjoyed a resurgence in popularity in recent years, and you won’t just find Baileys on our supermarket shelves.

“These creamy alcoholic drinks are flavoured with everything from mango and strawberry to espresso and salted caramel. However, whatever the flavouring, they are all classed as FOG and can wreak havoc on pipes.”
