Arsenal strike £34m switch settlement as Mikel Arteta finds Leandro Trossard successor

Arsenal have reportedly agreed a £34m deal to sign Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis to fill the void left by Leandro Trossard.

Arsenal have reportedly reached an agreement with Club Brugge to sign winger Christos Tzolis for a fee of £34million. The 24-year-old is expected to finalise his permanent transfer to the Emirates Stadium in the coming days.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta had been keeping tabs on the Greek international for several months. The forward is now expected to put pen to paper on a long-term contract, having already ironed out personal terms with the reigning Premier League champions.

According to The Athletic, Arsenal will pay a flat £34million to secure the attacker’s services after shaking hands with the Belgian outfit. Their report suggests the transfer is ‘in the process of being finalised’, with Tzolis prioritising a switch to the north London side despite courting attention from rival clubs.

Despite recruiting a left-winger, it is unlikely to impact the club’s chase for Aston Villa’s England international Morgan Rogers. Arsenal had originally earmarked Juventus prospect Kenan Yildiz to fill Trossard’s void. However, the Serie A giants knocked back their approach for the Turkish winger, 21, prompting them to explore alternative options.

Tzolis, who had a deal running until June 2029, delivered an outstanding season with the Belgian club. He produced a remarkable tally of 22 goals and 29 assists across 51 matches in 2025/26, including strikes against Atalanta and Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

Crystal Palace had shown interest in securing Tzolis last summer following the sale of Eberechi Eze to Arsenal. However, they were unable to meet the asking price and ultimately landed Yeremy Pino from Villarreal instead.

Tzolis’ initial stint in England came in 2020 when he joined Norwich from PAOK, but failed to establish himself before departing for Fortuna Dusseldorf in January 2024. He subsequently switched to Brugge just six months later, where he flourished.

Tzolis represents Arteta’s third summer acquisition, after Piero Hincapie’s loan arrangement was made permanent and the capture of free agent Ilaln Meslier, who departed Leeds United. The Spaniard is anticipated to pursue further marquee signings this summer as he aims to retain their crown, having broken a 22-year drought for domestic glory.

One member of their championship-winning side has already exited after Arsenal announced Trossard’s departure earlier this week. In a statement, they said: “We can confirm that we have reached an agreement with Besiktas for the permanent transfer of Leandro Trossard.

“With a transfer fee agreed, Leo, 31, has been granted permission to travel to Istanbul to undergo a medical and complete the formalities of his move to the Turkish Super Lig club. We will provide a further update once the transfer has been completed.”
