Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed a young man has died at at Penmaenau Farm caravan park last night after reports people were evacuated from the site as some reported hearing screams
Police swarmed a popular UK caravan site after reports some visitors had been “evacuated” with some claiming to have witnessed screams.
Reports suggested a serious incident had taken place near the Royal Welsh Show site in Builth Wells at the Penmaenau Farm caravan park, which provides the main campsite for the show each year with thousands of people on site.
Dyfed-Powys Police have now confirmed that the police activity was due to calls regarding a medical emergency that saw a young man, aged 25, tragically passing away.
The force the incident occurred at 10.30pm on Saturday (July 18) and has seen three men arrested in relation to drug-related offences. All three men remain in police custody.
Police officers are reportedly remaining in the area while enquiries continue after some guests on the site reported hearing screams.
According to Wales Online, eyewitnesses claim people were evacuated from Penmaenau Farm caravan park after screams were reportedly heard at the site in the middle of last night.
A woman who says her daughter had been staying at a nearby caravan claimed: “My daughter and her friend are a few rows down they watched the caravan involved be recovered on a lorry this morning.
“Everyone who was in their caravans [at the time of the incident] were made to leave even if they were clothed or not.”
Dyfed-Powys Police have since released a statement following the arrests and the death of the man, which they say is being treated as “unexplained”.
The statement reads: “Dyfed-Powys Police attended to a report of a medical emergency at Penmaenau Farm, Llanelwedd at around 10.30pm on Saturday, July 18.
“Despite the best efforts of paramedics, a 25-year-old man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
“Three men have been arrested on suspicion of drug-related offences and remain in custody. A police presence remains at the scene while enquiries continue.”
Chief Superintendent Steve Davies said: “This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts remain with the young man’s family at this difficult time.
“I would like to reassure the public that this is an isolated incident, and the death is currently being treated as unexplained.
“There is no evidence of any ongoing risk to the wider public in connection with this sad incident.”
Wales Online were told by a spokeswoman for the Royal Welsh event that a police investigation is on-going, but declined to share further information.
Penmaenau Farm campsite also declined to comment to the publication.
