Teen charged over racist Instagram abuse of England footballer Jess Carter

Aaryan Aggarwal, 19, has been charged with sending an offensive message after an alleged racist comment was posted on Instagram targeting England defender

A teenager has been accused of racially harassing an England footballer on social media.

The boy was arrested last September following a report of a racist post on Instagram targeting England defender Jess Carter.

Aaryan Aggarwal, 19, from Dickens Rise in Chigwell, is now facing charges for sending a letter, communication, or article conveying an indecent or offensive message. He’s set to appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court today (Tuesday, July 21).

Jess Carter, 28, has donned the Lionesses jersey over 50 times, having also played for Birmingham City and Chelsea before transferring to Gotham FC in New York.

She’s clinched the WSL title five times and lifted the Women’s FA Cup three times.

Carter was a key player in the Chelsea squad that finished second in the 2020/21 Women’s Champions League.

She also contributed to the England teams that triumphed in the Women’s Euros in 2022 and 2025, and were finalists in the Women’s World Cup in 2023, reports Essex Live.
