Liverpool have reportedly made an approach for highly-rated Monaco winger Maghnes Akliouche. The Reds are set to rival Paris Saint-Germain for the 24-year-old with the French giants long-standing suitors for the attacker.

Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas has reported that the Reds have made enquiries to Filipe Luis’ side over the sought-after winger. PSG have reportedly already seen three bids rejected for the wide-man, the latest said to be in the region of €40million (£34m).

Liverpool and their European foes PSG, who have eliminated them in the Champions League in each of the last two seasons, have been in battle for wingers this summer. Both clubs set their sights on Yan Diomande with the Ivorian, seemingly, deciding to join the Ligue 1 giants.

The Reds are said to have outlined Parisiens winger Bradley Barcola as one of their wide options to reinforce the attacking department following Mohamed Salah’s department.

Reports from talkSPORT this week have claimed that Liverpool will push with a deal for the France international if PSG sign Diomande or Akliouche, but the fresh claims from Sky Sports highlight a potential transfer battle between two of Europe’s elite for Akliouche.

New head coach Andoni Iraola has already signalled his transfer intentions with the Basque tactician not mincing his words regarding their transfer business, outlining the need to add reinforcements.

He said on Tuesday: “I think it is difficult to say a number. When the market is open, you have to be always open to new options to improve the squad.

“There are obvious situations where we need to sign players. Winger for example, we definitely need to sign a winger, but there are other situations where we will have to analyse what the market gives you, what is the cost, how we also see the players we have.

“We have some tricky positions where we have injured players that we trust, but it is still not the ideal situation, so it will depend on a lot of things.”

Akliouche has been named as one of the options for Liverpool to add reinforcements in forward areas. However, they will have to meet Monaco’s demands, who have already rebuffed a number of approaches from PSG this summer.

It has been widely claimed that Luis Enrique’s side are favourites for the 24-year-old France international. Earlier this month, it was reported that PSG were in advanced talks and there was an optimism around reaching an agreement for his services.

The Monaco star has already made 10 senior appearances for Les Bleus, scoring one goal, but his profile is one that aligns with Liverpool’s successful transfer strategy.

Akliouche has over 100 senior appearances despite his tender age, playing 139 times for Monaco, scoring 23 goals and providing 28 assists in the process.
