Brits who have been enjoying the weeks and months of sunshine are set to he brought back to earth with some good old fashioned summer showers, although some areas will dodge the wet windy conditions for another weekend
For many Brits the idea of a summer shower is something of a distant memory, after what’s been weeks and months of wall-to-wall sunshine.
However, those enjoying the record breaking temperatures will be for a rude awakening this weekend, with heavy showers forecast across much of the country.
The Met Office are predicting that, as well as a steep drop in temperatures, the UK is set to face wet weather on both Saturday and Sunday, with the north of England and Scotland amongst the areas forecast to bear the brunt of the rain. Despite a warm and dry Friday in most parts, the Met are warning that things wll be “turning cooler” over the weekend, “with some rain moving southeast across the UK.”
The meteorologists are also expecting things to get more windy by Saturday, warning that much of the country will be “breezy at times”.
Not all of Brits will be so lucky in terms of Friday’s forecast too, “patchy rain” expected to hit much of the northwest including the likes of Glasgow and Belfast, while “some more persisttent rain” will be hitting those areas later on.
For the rest of the country, Friday will see “generally fine elsewhere with some very warm, locally hot sunshine developing.”
However, by Saturday, much more of Britain will experience the same band of rain, with the Daily Mirror highlighting the following regions as being most impacted by the forecast:
- Scotland
- Wales
- Northern Ireland
- North West England
- South West England
- North East England
- Yorkshire and the Humber
- Midlands
- East Anglia and Central England
Those in the southeast as well as in and around the Capital will be spared most of the rain, which will not be good news for farmers or gardeners contending with a hosepipe ban.
Temperatures will also still be high down south, with the mercury hitting around 28 celsius in London on Saturday, around ten degrees warmer than most other parts of the country.
The Met say: “Very warm sunshine in the southeast on Saturday. Some showery rain moving southeast across the UK this weekend though, introducing cooler, breezy conditions. Further rain in the north on Monday.”
Into next week, the Met say that conditions will be “changeable”, although once again the UK seems to be split by a north/south weather divide.
Their forecast explains: “A changeable period is likely to start, with many areas seeing a mixture of bright or sunny spells and some rain at times. Northwestern areas are more likely to see the focus of rainfall, but elsewhere outbreaks of showers or thunderstorms may interrupt the dry conditions at times elsewhere.”
