Four men in their 20s have been confirmed to have been killed in a major crash in Huyton in Merseyside after a car reportedly veered off the road.
Police were called to Liverpool Road just before 2am today (July 24) after reports report a black Seat Cupra had crashed into a lamppost on the road.
Two men aged 23 and two other men aged 24 and 26 were all sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Merseyside police said their next of kin have been informed. A 27-year-old man, who was a passenger inside the car, was rushed to hospital and remains in a stable condition, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Superintendent Paul Holden said: “First and foremost our thoughts are with the family of the four men who sadly lost their lives following the collision in the early hours of this morning. Their families have been informed and are being supported by our specially trained family liaison officers.
“This is a truly devastating moment for their families and loved ones, and it is now our priority to get answers for them on how the collision occurred.
“We know this happened very early this morning, but if anyone saw what happened or were driving through the area just before the incident occurred then please get in touch.
“Similarly, if you live in the area and have doorbell footage of the black Seat Cupra or the incident itself, please contact us. You may have information or footage that would be useful to our investigation.”
Liverpool Road and part of Prescot Road East remain closed for more than nine hours after the crash was initially reported at around 2am.
Closures also remain in place on Shellingford Road, Prescot Road, Liverpool Road, Somerset Road, Back Dovecot Place, Dovecot Place, Taurus Road, Turriff Road, Dinas Lane, Lordens Road and Fincham Road.
Reports suggest that road closures may remain in place over the weekend.
A temporary flight restriction zone, specifically affecting drones, is also in place above Liverpool Road. The restriction regulations are under article 239 of the Air Navigation Order 2016.
