Jamie Varley’s former friend and work colleague claims the child killer phoned her up after the shocking death of little Preston Davey to figure out what she had heard
A former friend of Jamie Varley who worked in the same high school as him claims he phoned her up after he killed 13-month-old Preston Davey.
Sicko Varley was in the process of adopting Preston with his boyfriend, John McGowan-Fazakerley, before the tot cruelly lost his life. On July 27, 2023, Varley was rushed to Blackpool Victoria Hospital after Varley claimed he found him submerged in the bath.
Despite resuscitation attempts that lasted 50 minutes, Preston was tragically pronounced dead. It was later revealed that the little boy died after months of sexual and physical abuse at the hands of his monster adoptive dad who was ultimately found guilty of murder.
Now, Elaine, who was in a friendship group with Varley, has claimed the killer phoned her after Preston had been killed, and it was so he could work out what she knew.
Speaking on the Break The Ice channel, she said: “Preston had passed away and I didn’t know. And he rang me up and he said, ‘I’m moving to Preston.’ And I said, ‘Oh, have you got a new job?’ And he said, ‘No, no. I’m just, I’m going to commute to work.’
“Now, that was him testing to know whether I knew anything about Preston’s murder.”
She added: “I will say Preston’s murder now because at the time I used to think that Preston had passed away to begin with.
“I used to think, and this is awful as it is, maybe baby shaking syndrome? But did I ever think he was capable of that? No.”
Varley, 37, was recently given a whole life order for killing Preston who had 40 internal and external injuries. McGowan-Fazakerley, 32, was given a 25-year sentence for his role in the disturbing abuse.
Elaine also opened up in the interview about how Varley once spied on a former boyfriend by climbing his drain pipe while also revealing how his mask slipped after a work night out.
She worked with the killer at a school where she had a non-teaching role as head of Year 11. They socialised together and he would turn up at her house unannounced — but she said there was constant drama involving him.
Despite saying Varley was liked by the students he taught, she added: “Jamie was bossy… could be rude, could be obstructive, could be just an absolute pain in the a**.”
She added: “He was very very self-absorbed. Very much all about him. There was always, like I say, an issue.”
Having said that, she had no idea he would ever be capable of the horror him and his partner put Preston through and said: “Your brain doesn’t go there.”
She said that she would reject the chance to visit him in prison if he ever asked her — and that she hopes he suffers behind bars.
Elaine felt compelled to speak out after she was unfairly targeted online for being once associated with Varley.
She said: “I’m not this horrible person for knowing him and I just want to get on with the rest of my life.”
During the emotional interview, she also stressed: “It has been really really difficult for family and friends who have been associated with him. It just feels like people are targeting family and friends unjustifiably for things that we haven’t done, for things they’ve done.”
