With the long, hot summer set to continue into August, coffee lovers are searching for ways to get their caffeine fix without the heat. A cold brew from the high street can be a refreshing way to tick both boxes, but that daily treat quickly adds up in terms of cost.

Our resident coffee addict, Eve Rowlands, has stumbled upon a deal on a 2-in-1 coffee machine that whips up ‘refreshing’ iced coffee for a fraction of the price.

Currently on sale for less than £25, the Salter 2 In 1 Iced Coffee Maker is praised by shoppers for its dual-function controls, which quickly prepare both cold and hot brews.

This budget coffee machine includes a 420ml capacity double-walled travel mug and a 440ml iced coffee cup for cooler drinks, making it ideal for those on the move. Conveniently, it’s compatible with both ground coffee (available at local cafes and supermarkets) and coffee pods.

The machine has won fans for enabling users to swap their regular coffee shop order for a home-brewed barista-style drink enjoyed in the comfort of their own kitchen — and at less than £30, it’s a real money-saver. It also appears to be relatively straightforward to use, unlike many bean-to-cup machines, which some might find complicated (grinding, tamping, brewing, etc).

The brand explains: ‘Simply add your water and coffee into the machine, add ice to your cup, and watch it pour. ‘ It’s worth noting that for those who crave a double espresso first thing in the morning, this doesn’t seem capable of brewing one, as it’s a single-serve drip filter coffee maker rather than a high-pressure espresso machine, Eve told the Daily Record.

For those who’d fancy espresso alongside cold and hot coffee, a slightly bigger investment may be required. For shoppers prepared to splash out on their caffeine fix, the Ninja Luxe Café Premier Espresso Machine is currently reduced to £449.99, down from £549.99.

While it does represent a price jump, its capabilities more than justify the cost. It’s a multi-purpose 3-in-1 espresso, cold brew, and filter coffee machine that, according to the brand, ‘takes the guesswork out of coffee and includes a built-in grinder for extra convenience’.

It can whip up an extensive range of drinks at the press of a button and is straightforward to operate.

The La Specialista Arte Compact Manual Bean-to-Cup espresso coffee machine is another great option for those who like the idea of making their own coffee from scratch with whole beans. “I have this very coffee machine, and it’s ideal for making iced coffees as well as flat whites, cappuccinos, lattes and more,” wrote Eve in a recent review of the La Specialista.

Although if iced coffee isn’t a must-have, the L’OR BARISTA Sublime Piano Noir makes an excellent choice, Eve added.

“It produces fantastic hot coffee fairly quickly, courtesy of its coffee pods, and remains compact and simple to operate. Plus, it’s priced at £74.99 for the machine and 100 coffee capsules.”

That said, for those seeking something straightforward and reliable, the Salter 2 In 1 Iced Coffee Maker has proved popular with coffee enthusiasts, securing a 4-star rating and rave reviews.

Shoppers are raving about this £25 coffee machine, stating how it makes ‘stunning’ iced coffee(Image: Amazon)

One thrilled shopper wrote: “Makes impressive hot and ice coffees. I have been using this coffee maker for the past week, and my experience has been great so far. One thing that I really like is that it can make both hot and cold coffee. In the morning, I use it to make hot coffee, and later in the day, I use the cold brew function to make refreshing iced coffee. It’s also quick to brew.

“The 420 ml travel mug that is included is very convenient for when I need to take my coffee on the go. The 440 ml plastic cup with a straw is perfect for cold drinks like iced coffee, and they’re both easy to clean. Another thing I like is that I can use either ground coffee or coffee pads. I prefer using ground coffee, but this is personal preference. The machine is also small and doesn’t take up much space on the counter.

“If you fancy both hot and iced coffee and want a straightforward, all-in-one solution, you might want to consider the Salter EK6214. I thought it would be a bit of a gimmick, but it actually makes solid hot and cold coffees, so I am impressed. Happy to recommend.”

Another satisfied customer wrote: “Got this as a present for my grown-up son, he loves it. I also got him an icemaker, and he’s in iced coffee heaven now.”

A third added: “Makes a stunning cold coffee, just add ice to the cup. Small and compact, it doesn’t take up much space and is lightweight. Comes with two different cups/mugs – one for hot and one for cold coffee. Easy to add the coffee, press the button and make a drink.”

Not everyone was quite as impressed with the Salter 2 In 1 Iced Coffee Maker, however. One user knocked off two stars for its ‘limitations’, while another reported that their coffee machine didn’t heat the coffee sufficiently.

They said: “This is a really simple to use coffee machine that makes either hot or iced coffee.

“Comes with a measuring spoon, says to add three spoons of coffee to the filter, then press the button for either hot or cold. The hot setting is not really hot, it’s warm at best, coffee cools down very quickly in a normal mug, but stays warm in the thermal cup.” That said, they gushed: “The iced coffee is great!”

The Salter 2 In 1 Iced Coffee Maker is currently available for £24.99 on Amazon, down from its RRP of £25.99.
