Lewis Hamilton’s nightmare run of luck continued during the Hungarian Grand Prix as he was slapped with a five second penalty after suffering a grid place penalty in Qualifying
Lewis Hamilton’s nightmare Hungarian Grand Prix worsened after he was slapped with a five second penalty late on in Sunday’s race.
The seven-time world champion’s Championship bid has stuttered again on Sunday in Hungary after he narrowly missed out on pole before being slapped with a three-place grid penalty on Saturday.
Hamilton had been at the top of the time sheets during practice sessions but pole position was snatched away from under his nose by Lando Norris, who went on to win at the Hungaroring. Hamilton was dropped down the grid after he impeded Oscar Piastri in Qualifying, adding insult to injury.

But the Ferrari star managed to work his way into podium contention but his charge was ended in the final laps of the race when he was given a five-second time penalty for speeding in the pit lane.
He had been told to give Antonelli the position just moments earlier when he exited the pits.
The punishment ended his chances of catching Championship leader Kimi Antonelli, and he ultimately ended behind team-mate Charles Leclerc in P5 after the five seconds were added to his race time.
Hamilton reacted frustrated on the team radio when he called the punishment “crazy” and criticised the amount of penalties being handed out.
F1 now heads into a break with the next race at Zandvoort, Netherlands, on August 23. Antonelli’s third place finish, behind race winner Norris and Max Verstappen means the 19-year-old leads Hamilton at the top of the driver standings.
