Michael Carrick’s fifth transfer confirmed
United have finalised the capture of former Swansea City prospect Kit Margetson.
The 20-year-old goalkeeper joins after his contract with the Swans concluded last month. Margetson spent last season on loan at Connah’s Quay Nomads, assisting the club in securing European qualification in the Cymru Premier.
He becomes the club’s fifth summer acquisition under Michael Carrick, following midfielders Andrey Santos and Youri Telemans from Chelsea and Aston Villa respectively, veteran ex-Leeds United goalkeeper Karl Darlow and ex-Tottenham Hotspur youth winger Tynan Thompson.
A club statement read: “Manchester United have agreed the signing of exciting young goalkeeper Kit Margetson, subject to registration. The 20-year-old was most recently at Swansea City, a club he’d been with since under-15s.
“Last season, he had his first taste of senior football on loan at Connah’s Quay Nomads and kept 10 clean sheets in 34 appearances, helping the Welsh side to qualify for European competition.
“Margetson has also earned youth international caps for Wales and made his Under-21s debut against Belarus in March. Everyone at United would like to welcome Kit to the club and wish him the very best of luck for the future.”
Margetson is the newest shot-stopper to join the club after Darlow, who was recruited as a free agent from Leeds to provide seasoned cover for Senne Lammens.
Meanwhile, Andre Onana has returned to Trabzonspor on loan and both Radek Vitek and Altay Bayindir are also expected to depart this summer.
Alex Scott move takes new twist
United have encountered another complication in their chase for Bournemouth’s Alex Scott as Chelsea consider their next move.
The 22-year-old former England U21s star appeared in 37 league matches for the Cherries last season as the club secured European qualification for the first time in their history.
Sky Sports Germany claims Chelsea are contemplating lodging a second bid for Scott. The west London outfit reportedly saw an opening £64m offer turned down by Bournemouth, who have insisted the midfielder is not available for transfer.
However, Scott has offered encouragement to potential suitors by turning down a fresh Bournemouth deal, making it plain that he sees his future away from the Cherries.
United assessed Scott’s worth at around £40m, given that he’s yet to earn his maiden full England cap and lacks Champions League experience.
However, Bournemouth are demanding upwards of £70m for one of their most treasured players, meaning United are said to have walked away from any deal for now.
Meanwhile, United have also been associated with Roma’s Manu Kone, Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni and Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, as the club assess midfield options, reports the Mirror.
