Paris Saint-Germain look to have decided on a replacement for Bradley Barcola, should the forward join Liverpool. The Reds have been linked with a Premier League record breaking £145million move for the Frenchman.

It’s understood Liverpool have agreed personal terms with Barcola, meaning it’s now a question of putting in a bid PSG will accept. One sign of encouragement is the Champions League holders being linked with a move for Mika Godts of Ajax.

The Belgian is a goalscoring winger who would fill the void left behind by Barcola, should the 23-year-old move to Anfield. It’s the latest positive sign for Andoni Iraola’s side.

According to Fabrizio Romano, PSG have begun discussions to the Belgian, who recorded 17 goals and 15 assists across 44 outings in all competitions last season.

He has already begun this season impressively by netting two goals in two outings during Ajax’s recent UEFA Conference League qualifiers. Nevertheless, his displays failed to secure him a place in the Belgian national squad for the World Cup, a choice which surprised many observers at the time.

Regardless, the fact PSG are scheming to fill the void potentially created by Barcola’s departure indicates there is a substantial possibility Liverpool will manage to secure his signature. Last campaign, Barcola contributed 13 goals and five assists across 46 outings for the French champions.

He also managed to claim three goals and one assist in eight World Cup matches for France, who ultimately finished fourth in the tournament. The sum being discussed is £145m, which would easily eclipse the £125m the Reds paid out last year for Alexander Isak.

It would represent a Premier League transfer record and the third-most costly move in football history, with only Neymar and Kylian Mbappe’s switches to PSG ranking higher. It was also suggested that Enrique has made it plain he only desires players who are completely devoted to the club.

Beyond Barcola, it has been fairly subdued on the transfer scene at Anfield. While Jeremy Jacquet joined the club, seven months after a deal for him was struck in January, only Victor Munoz of Osasuna has arrived at Liverpool this summer.

With Joe Gomez recently sustaining an injury in the friendly match against Sunderland, a new central defender is also thought to be on the club’s agenda. There remains time for deals to be finalised before the commencement of the new season.

They are set to play Leeds United in Chicago, followed by two friendlies at Anfield against Monaco and FC Como. Iraola’s inaugural Premier League season as Reds manager will then kick off with an away fixture against Newcastle United on 23 August.
