Shocking video footage captured the moment a violent scrap involving a machete, acid and a wheel brace played out on the streets of a town. A man was left with horrific injuries to his eye and a bloodied face following the brutal brawl last Friday evening.
The clip shows a number of men fighting outside an opticians in front of horrified passers-by in Tuam, Co Galway, in Ireland. At one point in the video a man can be seen using a wheel brace as he reigns down several blows on another in the street.
As the row continues a man is heard shouting “he started this,” as others shout and scream while the violent disorder continues.
The victim is at this point already covered in blood as another man is seen spraying what appears to be a substance in his direction. A gruesome picture has also emerged of the victim covered in blood and with serious wounds around one of his eyes.
Sources said acid was used in the attack, as well as a machete and the wheel brace, the Irish Mirror reports. It comes amid a violent feud in the area which has escalated in recent days.
Police have subsequently arrested a man in relation to the row. Three men were taken to hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
A spokesperson said officers responded to a report of an incident of violent disorder at Shop Street, Tuam, Co Galway, at around 9.20pm.
They added: “Three men (aged in their 30s and 40s) were brought to University Hospital Galway for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
“A man, aged in his 40s, has been arrested as part of the investigation and is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a station in the Garda North Western Region.”
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have been in the Shop Street area between 9:00pm and 9:30pm and has camera footage – including dash cam or mobile phone recordings – to come forward.
