Michael Carrick had made three signings at Manchester United so far this summer but the Red Devils are far from finished in the transfer market and a surprise move for an Arsenal star is being lined up
Manchester United have strengthened the centre of their midfield with two additions so far this summer but Michael Carrick’s work in the transfer window is far from done.
United supporters were forced to wait for their club to burst into life this window but were rewarded with the arrivals of Andrey Santos, former Leeds United keeper Karl Darlow and Youri Tielemans. Promising youngsters in Tynan Thompson and Kit Margetson were also secured.
Their most recent pre-season encounter saw them overcome Atletico Madrid 2-1 in Stockholm. However, one area that the club are eager to strengthen is left-back. And a shock swoop for an Arsenal star to solve the problem has been reported. Here, the Daily Star Sport looks at the latest transfer developments emerging from Old Trafford.

United were initially linked with Lewis-Skelly last year when he discovered himself slipping down the left-back hierarchy at Arsenal. Both Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapie were receiving greater playing time.
This issue was quickly sorted when Mikel Arteta shifted the 19-year-old into midfield where he excelled. Nevertheless, Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes is scheduled for a Gunners medical on Monday, according to The Times.
Should the Brazilian complete his move, he’ll represent another star Lewis-Skelly must vie with for first-team opportunities. Moreover, his rumoured £80m price tag will create a significant financial impact.
Any sum Arsenal receive from offloading Lewis-Skelly would represent pure profit under Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, so if United submit the correct bid, it might prove impossible to reject.
The Independent reports that they are presently awaiting confirmation whether the Gunners are willing to negotiate over Lewis-Skelly, with United’s interest remaining firm.
Man Utd star ‘agrees’ to move
Regarding departures, reports from Italy suggest Joshua Zirkzee has accepted a loan switch to Juventus without any obligation to purchase.
The Dutch striker doesn’t seem to feature in Carrick’s first-team thinking. United signed Zirkzee for £36m in 2024 and he became the inaugural signing under INEOS ownership. He previously featured in Italy with Bologna.
It’s understood that Zirkzee has proven challenging to sell and, having failed to establish himself at United, is much more likely to depart on loan, either with or without a purchase option. La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Zirkzee has agreed to a deal with Juventus and has already given his ‘yes’ to the Italian club.
However, the transfer is dependent on the Old Lady’s ability to offload striker Jonathan David.
