Arsenal have agreed a fee with Newcastle to sign Bruno Guimaraes and the 28-year-old midfielder is set to fly in for his medical to complete a switch to north London
Arsenal have agreed a £75million fee with Newcastle for Bruno Guimaraes.
The Gunners have been pushing to sign the Brazilian midfielder all summer and a breakthrough has finally been made in negotiations with the 28-year-old preparing to undergo his medical.
Guimaraes has made his wish to leave Newcastle and join Arsenal clear before he met up with the Magpies’ pre-season training camp in Spain, where he again asked new manager Matthias Jaissle to leave.
And it’s now been reported that a deal has been struck for £75m between the two clubs, and permission has been given for him to undergo a medical.
Arsenal and Guimaraes have already reportedly agreed personal terms, with his former club Lyon also said to pocket a 20 per cent sell-on clause.
Guimaraes appears set to make his Gunners bow in the Community Shield against Manchester City on August 16, a week before the start of the new Premier League season.
Guimaraes arrived late to Newcastle’s training camp in La Manga after being afforded extra time off following his role in Brazil’s World Cup campaign. The Magpies attempted, but were unable to convince him to stay, and they will go their separate ways with the decision made amicably.
Jaissle had been hoping to change Guimaraes’ mind when he arrived, but he was unsuccessful and the player remained determined to secure his exit.
Guimaraes’ arrival at the Emirates marks their fourth signing of the summer, following the permanent acquisition of Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen for £34m, Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge for £34m, and the free transfer of ex-Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier.
However, at Newcastle, it’s just the latest blow in a nightmare summer that has seen Eddie Howe walk out of the club, as well as the departures of Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali, and now their beloved Guimaraes.
