Police Scotland has announced that a 35-year-old man has been charged following the death of a nine-year-old girl who was found with injuries at the Elliot industrial estate in Arbroath
A 35-year-old man has been charged in relation to the death of a nine-year-old girl who was discovered with injures in Arbroath.
The girl was found seriously injured just after midnight on Monday morning at the Elliot industrial estate in the Angus town and taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, where she later died. She is believed to have been camping in the area.
Police are treating the death as suspicious and the white British man is due to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court on Wednesday. Officers say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the girl’s death. The nine-year-old girl and the 35-year-old man are known to each other.
Detective inspector Mike Ness of Police Scotland’s major investigation team said a police presence will remain in the area while inquiries continue.
Inspector Mike Ness said: “Our thoughts remain with those affected by these events. A police presence will remain in the area while our enquiries continue.
“Anyone with any concerns, or information, should approach these officers or contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0008 of Monday, 3 August 2026.”
It has come to light that at least two other individuals were rushed to hospital alongside a nine-year-old girl who tragically passed away following the incident.
Detective Superintendent Nicky McGovern previously stated: “Around 12.02am on Monday, August 3 2026, officers were called to Elliot Industrial Estate in Arbroath after a nine-year-old girl was found with serious injuries.
“She was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where she later died. A 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with her death, which is being treated as suspicious.
“Her family are being supported by specialist officers as inquiries continue.”
