Man Utd information: Michael Carrick dealt large switch blow as Rashford contract clause revealed

Manchester United are actively pursuing new signings before the transfer window deadline, with Barcelona’s latest moves creating complications for their pursuit of Tchouameni

Michael Carrick faces a busy transfer window

Manchester United’s summer overhaul is nowhere near finished, with the club still anticipated to remain busy during the closing weeks of the transfer window – with fans starting to feel a little disappointed with the completed business.

The engine room has been the primary focus, with United securing Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans. Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni surfaced as a target earlier this summer but Barcelona’s transfer meddling could scupper any prospective agreement.

Here, Daily Star Sport examines the latest transfer developments from Old Trafford with the days left in the window ticking down to Transfer Deadline Day.

United’s efforts to resolve Rashford’s situation have become increasingly urgent after his contract clause came to light. The 28-year-old is currently pocketing approximately £300k per week, but his salary is now due to rise following United’s Champions League qualification.

Prior to Sir Jim Ratcliffe implementing sweeping changes to the club’s financial framework, United players enjoyed a contractual clause guaranteeing a 25 per cent wage hike should they qualify for Champions League football, reports the Manchester Evening News.

This provision was scrapped in 2024, though players who penned agreements beforehand – including Rashford and Mason Mount – retain their entitlement to the enhancement.

Barcelona’s surprise chase of Manchester City midfielder Rodri could have significant ramifications for United’s transfer market ambitions. Real Madrid had emerged as frontrunners to land the Spain international, whose Etihad Stadium deal has fewer than 12 months left to run.

Jose Mourinho’s outfit were allegedly ready to splash more than £60m on the 30-year-old and, from United’s viewpoint, Rodri’s move to Real Madrid would create the ideal circumstances.

His switch to the Bernabeu could push key target Aurelien Tchouameni towards the departure lounge, with Los Blancos requiring space in their midfield ranks and needing to raise capital to preserve their financial equilibrium.

Should the Catalan club pip Real Madrid to Rodri’s services, there would be scant motivation for Los Blancos to enter discussions regarding Tchouameni – hampering United’s prospects of a late midfield acquisition.
