Meghan Markle has faced criticism for the Instagram posts she shared in honour of her 45th birthday. In one clip, the Duchess of Sussex is seen dancing around a kitchen island festooned with happy birthday balloons at their residence in Montecito, California.

In another, the former actress chuckles as she tries to place a party hat on her dogs. Meghan’s birthday posts were labelled “cringeworthy” on News 24, previously Sky News Australia, with journalist Chloe Walker suggesting Meghan wanted to ensure everyone was aware it was her special day despite the announcement that Princess Eugenie had given birth.

Speaking to Gabriella Power, she said: “The internet has certainly been divided over Meghan’s series of posts. Even though Eugenie’s baby news was a great thing for the Royal Family to celebrate, Meghan definitely didn’t miss out.

“She wanted everyone to know that it was still her birthday on August the 4th, so she woke up bright and early with a series of posts.”

Chloe continued: “She was dancing with a little plastic crown and a t-shirt that said ‘It’s giving Mrs.’ She wants everyone to know that she’s still fun-loving, she’s still in love with Harry, Harry’s in love with her and all is well in Montecito.”, reports the Express.

She recognised the varied response from fans, with some confessing they adored Meghan’s videos because it provided them a glimpse into the Sussexes’ lives in Montecito.

Chloe commented: “Other people said, ‘Wow. This is pretty interesting. Look how far the mighty have fallen. She could have been wearing a real crown, but instead now she’s just wearing a plastic crown on her birthday.'”.

Meghan also posted two snaps of herself leaping into a swimming pool clutching balloons, which Chloe suggested was Meghan’s way of demonstrating how “fun and silly” she can be.

“This is how the Sussexes celebrate birthdays, not the Royal Family who are rigid and boring,” she added, mimicking Meghan.

Meanwhile, her lifestyle brand, As Ever, also commemorated her birthday by posting a picture of her and lauding the “woman behind it all”.

“It was a lot, but very Meghan,” Chloe concluded.
