OPINION: After a busy Daily Star shift, we swapped deadlines for drinks, sunshine and a little friendly competition at Electric Shuffle Canary Wharf – and it delivered the perfect city escape
After a hectic day in the Daily Star office, there was only one thing left to do… clock off, grab the team and find somewhere that could turn an ordinary work night out into something worth talking about.
And we think we may have found the perfect spot. Electric Shuffle Canary Wharf has become our new favourite destination for after-work drinks, thanks to its stunning summer terrace, buzzing atmosphere and competitive games that bring out everyone’s inner champion.
The night started outside on the venue’s brand-new terrace, where the team could finally relax after a busy shift with a few well-earned drinks in the sunshine.
With cute lighting, comfy outdoor seating and banging tunes playing, the terrace instantly felt like the perfect place to unwind. It’s the kind of spot where you can easily lose track of time chatting, catching up and having a proper yap after work.
Whether you’re looking for somewhere to meet colleagues, celebrate a birthday or just enjoy a summer evening in Canary Wharf, the outdoor space has a real social vibe that makes you want to stay for “just one more drink”.
Cocktails were flowing as the team settled in, with refreshing summer serves making the perfect match for the sunny terrace atmosphere. There were plenty of pints enjoyed too, making it an ideal after-office hangout.
But while the terrace is the perfect place to start the evening, the real action happens inside.
Once we stepped indoors, things quickly became competitive as we took on Electric Shuffle’s high-tech shuffleboard games.
Forget politely standing around a bar chatting about work – within minutes everyone was fully invested, cheering on teammates, celebrating wins and dramatically questioning every unlucky shot.
The best thing about Electric Shuffle is that it manages to be competitive without taking itself too seriously. Whether you’re naturally gifted or completely hopeless (like some of us), the games are designed to get everyone involved.
The venue’s new games, Studio 21 and The Edge, add even more excitement, testing both skill and nerve. Studio 21 is all about hitting the magic score of 21, while The Edge rewards precision and bravery – although one overconfident shot can send your hopes flying straight off the board.
The food also deserves a special mention, with the boneless buffalo wings proving to be a huge hit. Packed with flavour and dangerously moreish, they disappeared from the table almost instantly.
The garlic doughballs were another standout, arriving warm, fluffy and so good that everyone was reaching for another one between games.
By the end of the night, the leaderboard had caused plenty of debate, friendships had become slightly more competitive and everyone was already talking about a rematch.
Electric Shuffle Canary Wharf has nailed the ultimate city work night out… sunshine, cocktails, great food, good tunes and just enough competition to keep everyone entertained.
For teams looking to swap the office for something a little more memorable, this is one summer spot worth putting on the list.
