A multi-agency search has been launched in Sandhurst, just outside Gloucester, after a male voice was reportedly heard calling for assistance from the direction of a lake
Emergency services are scouring a lake near Gloucester following reports of someone in distress on Friday night.
A multi-agency search has been launched in Sandhurst after a male voice was heard crying out for help. In a statement released this morning, Gloucestershire Police said searches have resumed on Saturday morning. A police helicopter has also been spotted overhead.
A spokesperson said: “It was reported at around 11.45pm that a male voice was heard from the direction of the lake off Sandhurst Lane, just outside of Gloucester, calling for assistance. Police and fire crews attended and an initial search was made before being temporarily paused due to concerns for the welfare of officers.
“Searches have resumed this morning alongside other enquiries around any missing people in the area.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Gloucestershire Police via their website, quoting incident number 561 of August 7.
Meanwhile, tributes have been pouring in for a “wonderful and generous” man who tragically lost his life in a multi-vehicle incident on a busy Carmarthen road.
Emergency services rushed to the scene on the A40 in the town at approximately 9.50pm on Tuesday, July 28, following reports of concerns for a pedestrian’s safety.
Police have reported that several vehicles, including a marked police car on patrol, collided with the man, who was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has since been identified as 44-year-old Gerard Trojanowski, a resident of the Merthyr Tydfil area. His grieving family released a statement saying: “Gerard was a loving husband and father.
“A wonderful and generous person with a good heart. He will always be in our memories. As a family we ask for privacy during this difficult time.”
In the wake of the fatal incident, which resulted in a section of the A40 in Carmarthen being closed for nearly 24 hours, Dyfed-Powys Police made a compulsory referral to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC), as is required by law in such circumstances.
Police have also issued a broader appeal for any information relating to the incident, urging any witnesses to get in touch by dialling 101.
