Police are appealing for information after a dog was burned alive inside a vehicle in a McDonald’s car park in Petersfield. A man 28-year-old man has been arrested
A dog has died after being burned alive inside a vehicle at a McDonald’s car park, with police now appealing for information into the horror incident.
Hampshire Police are investigating a vehicle fire and death of a dog in Petersfield after they were called to the vehicle blaze in the McDonald’s car park on Winchester Road at around 12.15am on June 22. The fire service also attended and the dog was sadly found dead inside the car.
An investigation was launched and a 28-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested on suspicion of arson, causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and no insurance.
He has been bailed with conditions until September 22 whilst enquiries continue.
As part of enquiries, officers have been reviewing CCTV footage and are keen to speak to two members of the public who were seen in the area at the time. They appeared to have tried to gain entry to the vehicle to try to help the dog.

Meanwhile, a man has been charged following the tragic deaths of four men when a car collided with a lamppost in Merseyside.
Officers rushed to the scene after reports that a Seat Cupra Formentor had veered off the road and crashed into a lamppost on East Prescot Road, Huyton, in the early hours of July 24.
Jack Diggle, 23, Benjamin Dooley, 23, Andrew Roberts, 24, and Craig Shackleton-Brady, 26, were all declared dead at the location. On Friday evening, Merseyside Police announced that James Diggle, 27, of Alundale Road in West Derby, had been charged with four counts of aiding and abetting causing death by dangerous driving.
The 27-year-old was presented at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.
Court representatives stated that the defendant did not submit a plea and was held in custody to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on September 7.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police commented: “As criminal proceedings are now active, we would ask that the public refrain from commenting on, or speculating about, the circumstances of this case online as this could unintentionally prejudice the judicial process.
“Our thoughts remain with the families and loved ones of the four men who tragically lost their lives, and we ask that their privacy is respected at this extremely difficult time.”
