Manchester United are in the final stages of their pre-season preparations, but Michael Carrick will be working hard to make sure more incomings arrive at Old Trafford
Michael Carrick and Manchester United are ramping up their pre-season work ahead of games against Leeds and AC Milan this week.
And the work ahead of the new campaign can finally take better shape with Carrick welcoming back a complete squad with those players who went far in the World Cup now able to link back up with their club sides.
There is just two weeks remaining until the league curtain-raiser at Hull, but more work is needed in the transfer market. Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos have both arrived for substantial sums but another fresh face could materialise following Casemiro’s departure and Manuel Ugarte’s fitness problem. Here, the Daily Star Sport looks at the latest news from Old Trafford.
Liverpool could compete with United for Camara
Manchester United and Liverpool have entered the chase for Senegal sensation Lamine Camara, as reported by Foot Mercato. Crystal Palace are equally interested in the 22-year-old, who has attracted attention from English sides for some time.
Monaco are believed to be demanding £43m for the player, who has previously been linked with a Chelsea switch. Camara came through the renowned Generation Foot academy and also turned out for Metz prior to joining his present outfit.
The midfielder was also a crucial component of Senegal’s World Cup 2026 squad. He featured in all four matches as they progressed from their group before falling to Belgium in the round of 32.
Rashford situation remains open
Marcus Rashford has returned to the Manchester United fold, alongside Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez following their extended World Cup campaigns. Rashford is set to be welcomed back into the Old Trafford setup for the upcoming campaign and has been given the No.14 shirt, although a potential suitor could still materialise.
Barcelona possessed an option to sign the forward permanently for £26m at the end of their loan deal but chose to let it expire. A similar offer from elsewhere might still prove adequate to secure Rashford’s services, though none has emerged to date.
“We have got a full squad this week in Dublin,” Carrick said. “We fly straight there and have a few days where we have the whole group back together.
“Marcus is part of that, and Kobbie and Lisandro. We look forward to seeing them.”
