A prankster behind a popular Daniel Kinahan parody account on X claims to have received sinister threats following the suspected cartel boss’s extradition to Ireland
A cheeky prankster behind a spoof social media account mocking alleged mob boss Daniel Kinahan claims they have been hit with death threats following the suspected kingpin’s extradition to Ireland.
Kinahan touched down on Irish soil for the first time in over a decade on Sunday evening after an extensive international manhunt culminated in his arrest in Dubai.
The 49-year-old arrived at an airfield on the outskirts of Dublin before being dragged straight before a Special Criminal Court. He was slapped with charges of orchestrating the operations of a criminal organisation and hauled off to maximum-security Portlaoise Prison on remand.
The person running the popular spoof account @caughtkinahan, which boasts more than 150,000 followers on X, now claims they are being targeted with sinister warnings.
The bizarre account mostly shares pictures of women’s cleavage under Kinahan’s name, featuring a photo of him in orange prison gear as its profile picture.
Taking to the site on Friday, the online joker posted: “If I suddenly disappear I want someone to continue ‘rack of the day’ in my absence.”
Beneath the post, they attached a screenshot of a chilling direct message sent to their inbox, which allegedly warned: “People just a heads up. Be very careful running that account. Seriously? I’m Irish and I’m just giving you some serious advice. There could be a serious backlash over the name on this account.”
The sender signed off the ominous message with a gun emoji and a creepy “stay safe”. Refusing to back down, the person behind the page fired back: “Is that a feeble attempt at a threat? Not very clever laaa.”
They later laughed off the incident with a cheeky follow-up post, declaring: “The rumours of my demise have been greatly exaggerated”
The real-life Kinahan was put in cuffs on April 17 as part of a bilateral agreement between Ireland and the United Arab Emirates.
He was held in Dubai before being loaded onto an official Irish Government jet on Sunday to finally face the music in Dublin.
The flight touched down at Casement Aerodrome in Baldonnel just after 6.30pm. Minutes later, a heavily guarded convoy of vehicles with blacked-out windows tore out of the gates, heading toward the city centre.
Kinahan was marched into Dublin’s Special Criminal Court at 8.10pm wearing a black hoodie and matching tracksuit bottoms, flanked by plainclothes Gardai.
He was remanded in custody after being formally charged with directing an organised crime group. He is due back in the dock on October 5, where he will have the option of attending in person or appearing via video link from behind bars.
