A devastated wife has given a deeply moving tribute to her “one of a kind” husband following his tragic death in a serious collision, years after becoming a millionaire via the lottery. Anthony Canty, 39, passed away four days after an accident on Maldon Road in Tiptree on May 21.
Emergency services rushed to the scene around 6.30am following reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a bicycle. Anthony was transported to hospital by ambulance, but sadly he died on May 25.
Paying tribute, Anthony’s wife Kate – who is expecting their third child – portrayed him as “an amazing husband and the best dad”. She vowed to ensure their children “grow up knowing what an incredible man and amazing dad he was”, as reported by Essex Live.
A statement read: “The pain of losing him is the worst pain imaginable. Every day feels overwhelming and we are completely lost without him.
“He was a hardworking, loving family man with the biggest heart. He had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. If someone needed help, Anthony was always there.
“He was the life and soul of the party and lit up every room he walked into with his big smile, his charm and his character.
“He made people laugh, brought people together and made every moment brighter just by being there.”
“Life will never be the same without him. He really was one in a million and one of a kind. I still can’t believe he has been taken from us so tragically. I have lost my husband, my two girls have lost their dad, and he will never get to meet our unborn baby. We are all completely broken.”
An inquest into Anthony’s death earlier this year revealed he died from “traumatic injuries “. Essex Police confirmed an 18 year old man remains under investigation.
Anthony is said to have been a key worker who played a crucial role in saving the life of a police officer who suffered a heart attack on a bus during the Covid-19 lockdown, and incredibly won a whopping £1 million in the EuroMillions in May 2020, just weeks later.
He administered CPR to the officer after he collapsed while they were on a bus in April 2020, before the officer in question was airlifted to hospital where he spent a total of five days in intensive care.
